MISSION STATEMENT
For those who are lonely, worried, afraid, in pain, or doubt: This website has changed it’s mission statement as of February 2011. Now, after surviving two extremely painful and life threatening illnesses, it is my only desire to help those in pain. I have technically retired from medicine and now, only wish to use my words to heal, both here and in my books. Please find a great deal of free information here on the pages of this site, many free and generously-sized personal readings of my books you may listen too, and other information on the “store page.” There is no attempt to “make money” here and we never have, but we do appreciate any support we can garner to help us continue this work. Finally, if you are financially challenged and cannot afford a book or tape that would help you, just contact me and I will see personally that you get what you need gratis. Many blessings, Dr. Todd
When in Doubt: The Two “G’s”: The immediate solution to EVERY problem.
When things are going well, it is ever so easy to read about, talk about, even teach about, all the wonderful niceties of “positive thinking” and so forth. But when calamity hits, things change, and confusion and doubt can take over in a matter of minutes, flooding the mind with questions like, “Where do I start?” and “What can I do?”
Yes, there are so many things we have all learned along the path, tools that will help us survive and prosper, tools that will help us manifest dreams and “things” we think we want, things we think will make us happy. But which of these do we do when we hear that our child may be severely ill, our spouse in trouble or pain, the IRS auditing us, someone assasinating our character, seemingly unavoidable financial ruin, or any number of other troubling issues? What do we do when we are in a state of quiet or not so quiet panic?
In my own experience, I have found it useful to reduce all of the manifold, complex spiritual and metaphysical information we have to the “Two G’s.” Generosity, and Gratitude. Either one, practiced perfectly, will restore harmony to your life if you will stay with them, work with them, have faith in them, and persist. This is a true statement that I will not equivocate upon.
My own great spiritual advisor, Brad Sykes, of Boulder, long ago gave me a prayer to say each morning. I am to say this prayer and no other. I am to ask for nothing, NOTHING, for myself, only this:
God, please help me today, to get my mind off myself and onto the cares of others. Please provide me with opportunities to help someone else. Make me strong enough to help others. I know that You will. Amen
So, to make things ultra simple, here is an enumerated list of exactly what you should do if you are having problems right now. If you do these things, I promise you, things will start to improve. Keep at it, and your problems will ease, your pain will ease, and you will experience the Grace of God–gifts that you cannot earn, cannot deserve, but are just freely given by the Infinite Intelligence that guides our Universe–and your personal life as well. Believe it, not because I say it, but because many thousands of sages have said it over and over through the ages, in one form or another.
1) Think of someone who has problems worse than or equal to your own. Call or visit that person and listen to their problems. You do not have to necessarily offer advice, and only should if you are asked. Just listen compassionately and caringly and offer to do whatever you can to help them.
2) Give something away. Whether that be a bit of money to a worthy charity, something valuable that means something to you to someone else who needs it more than you. Do not hesitate on this. You can do it right now by going to a worthy charity site and just giving away $5. Grace does not monitor the amount. Remember the “Widow’s Mite.” It is not the amount, but the INTENT.
3) Forgive the most unforgiveable person you know. What does that look like? It means perhaps just calling them, and acting normally, friendly, kindly towards them–as though you had forgotten what they had done.
4) As mentioned in a chapter in my new book, inspired by the great singer, Susan Osborn, when in pain, find something beautiful and concentrate upon it. Focus on it, cherish it, appreciate it, get lost in it. It could be a flowering tree, a great symphony such as Beethoven’s Ninth, an art book of your favorite artist, perhaps Van Gogh or Monet, or even the healthiest parts of your body.
5) Count your blessings. Literally. Write them down. All the GOOD things in your life, and we all have some, no matter how bleak things look. Studies have shown that this alone, when practiced daily, has the SAME effect on depression as antidepressants! Please, please, do this NOW.
6) SEE, if only for ten seconds, and no matter how hopeless things are currently, what your life, what YOU would look like, as a carefree, prosperous, happy person, with as much love, resources, and fun that you can imagine. Please, please, for your own good, stop, right now, and force yourself if necessary, fake it if necessary–but SEE this state. Even ten seconds of this will tell the Universe where it is you want to be led, and it will begin to rearrange itself around you to make it so. Resolve to do this every day, just for a few seconds and it will help you immeasurably.
There are many more things, obviously, but let’s follow the KISS principle: Keep it Simple Stupid! And yes, just laugh at the “stupid” part! Just do these six things and do them for three days.
There are two more caveats that are wonderful. The first is to Google “Silent Unity.” These are people who pray for others 24/7/365 in Kansas City. CALL them, or if you cannot muster that, email them with your problem. They will pray for you for 30 days, day and night, and this rarely fails to produce a positive change in circumstances. Don’t be shy. I know these people and they are nothing but full of compassion and understanding, free of all judgment.
Finally, for WOMEN. And this is super important if you do not already know about it. RUN, do not walk, to the nearest health food store and buy some progesterone creme. Wise Women’s Essentials, Wild Yam Progesterone Creme, as formulated per the great physician’s specifications, Dr. John Lee MD, is excellent, but any will help if made from wild yams. Progesterone is the natural Valium of a woman’s nervous system. But it is overwhelmed by the massive amounts of xeno (false) estrogens that are rampant in our environment–thus causing your hormones to be out of balance. Rub 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon on your skin three times a day. Please consider this as only as suggestion of a lay person suggesting an over the counter supplement, as I am no longer a practicing physician. But it works. And very well. Trust me and if you can, read about it in Dr. Lee’s books which are available everywhere. The change will be amazing. Ideally, see a Natural Hormone Balancer, in your area which can easily be found through Google. I used to have a motto: First balance her hormones, THEN deal with the symptoms that remain–only then administering antidepressants and so forth. But under no circumstances, change anything your physician is already doing.
Today’s Prayer for those in pain:
Dear Father Mother God, Please help me feel the gratitude and generosity that are within me, your child, as a reflection of your pure Grace. Help me get my mind off my own troubles for at least long enough to help someone else. Help me to appreciate all the good that is already within my life. Help me forgive. Help me be generous. I know that you can and that you will and thank you in advance for your Grace in this, as in all matters. Amen.

To Dr Michael,
I am reading your book The Hidden Parables. It is great to be able to consider realistic applicable interpretations. I find this gives me food for directon and understanding.
I have an interpretation of ‘seek and you shall find’ that has been a valuable guide for me through 10 years of 5 seperate traumatic events. My experience also ties into the parable of ‘The Good Samaritan’.
I wonder about the Samaritan, lying there, unable to help himself. This reminded me of my experience, of the times when I was so exhausted by events that I was almost at the point of not being able to conduct myself in my life. What about when we can’t look after ourselves and we become dependant on others?
In my experience, the guidance of the parable, seek and you shall find, knock and the door will open became my inspiration.
This parable for me is about having faith and how faith works. To believe with action (physical and/or mental and spiritual) that sustainence and restoration will come. Inspired by spiritual belief, the mental position changes, strength and sureness replaces weakness and lack of control.
One may seem to be ‘self absorbed’ in such circumstances, but if one is barely surviving independantly, then focusing on personal regeneration is a priority. I needed to regain my stength to be more present for my children and others.
When I am in a weakened state I am giving others the opportunity to practice compassion. I am, in this state, given the opportunity to practice humilty, as I am no longer fully in control of my life.
This parable tells me that I have to combine action and faith to gain nourishment. My understanding of the story of Daniel in the Lion’s Den is that his peaceful state affected all in the situation, he was peacefully in control. His faith was in action.
Well this is a lot longer than a comment,
best wishes,
Robyn
